“Among Nazis” by Jakob Springfeld: This book belongs in schools – culture

In “Among Nazis” Jakob Springfeld reports on his personal commitment against the right. A tremendous book that finally belongs in schools.

Jakob Springfeld is afraid. Everyone in Zwickau knows what he stands for. As neo-Nazis marched up and down in front of his parents’ house, they left a message: “Good Night Left Side.” A friend has “Smack Ticks” stuck on his mailbox, left-wingers have to hide in a gas station to escape right-wing thugs. “I don’t want to look like a victim, especially not in front of these shitty Nazis. But we are all afraid. “I’m afraid,” writes Jakob Springfeld in the first chapter. It is called “Night Thoughts,” like the poem by Heinrich Heine whose beginning is famous: “If I think about Germany at night, then I am deprived of sleep.”
