Donald Trump feels that he has been treated unfairly again. He is currently preparing a class action lawsuit against the heads of the big tech companies for alleged censorship. However, legal experts give the project little chance.
Trump’s own alternative to the big platforms, announced with great pomp, was nothing more than a blog that was quickly discontinued. In the last few weeks, however, a whole range of other offers have been presented. There is Gettr, initiated by Trump’s former spokesman Jason Miller. The self-proclaimed Twitter alternative is advertised with the usual phrases. You see yourself as a “marketplace of ideas” and stand up against the supposed cancel culture.
But Miller has so far only been able to convince a few of his offer. Maybe it’s because the right-wing services across the board are of poor quality. Most of them are brazen copies of the mainstream networks that struggle to stay online at all. The users are already failing to register. But the fighters for freedom of expression also have an explanation for this. It is once again censorship by the tech establishment at work.
The only thing missing is the right hardware for all the bad apps. Last week Erik Finman introduced the Freedom Phone. Finman, who, according to his own statement, is the “youngest Bitcoin millionaire in the world”, had only attracted attention on Twitter for half-baked aphorisms about the decline of the middle class. In a pathetic advertising video he denounces the “Big Tech Overlords”, dramatic string music plays in the background, pictures show other famous censors, Stalin, Mao and Nazis burning books. The man is now countering this with an operating system called Freedom OS and an “uncensible” portal for apps, the “Patri App Store”.
Smartphone experts quickly exposed the freedom phone as a model made in China with the not-so-patriotic name Umidigi A9 Pro. The phone is known to be notoriously unsafe. In addition, you can buy it on wholesale sites like Aliexpress for just under a hundred dollars, while Finman’s version costs five times as much. Shouldn’t it be about the big thing, just about taking the hard savings from gullible compatriots?
What remains is the “uncensible” app store and the specially developed “free speech-based” operating system. But even these promises don’t even stand up to a cursory glance. The Freedom OS is nothing more than a customized version of Google’s Android. The app store waves through every program and doesn’t even check for viruses or spyware. A less secure device is likely to be difficult to find at the moment. The young man will still find a few buyers. The target group is not very open to well-founded arguments.
