Amazon arrives in Belfort and should create jobs there. The American online sales giant will set up a logistics platform near the city for which 310 people will work, including 80 directly recruited to manage the site.
Covering an area of nearly 10,000 m2, this so-called “last mile” logistics base will be installed on a plot of 77,000 m2 on the Aeroparc de Fontaine, said Tuesday Damien Meslot, LR president of Grand Belfort.
A strategic position
According to Damien Meslot, also mayor of Belfort, 80 people will be recruited to manage the platform and 230 drivers “from local companies” will be indirectly employed. The elected official specifies having launched a project of “diversification” towards hydrogen and logistics for the territory of Greater Belfort, given its “geographical location”, near the Swiss and German borders and along a major road axis , the A36 motorway.
Another 76,000 m2 platform project, the originator of which is not officially known, is also planned nearby. According to the media Factual Info, it could also be invested by the American group of e-commerce: the media of Franche-Comté unveiled in December the name of Amazon, badly redacted in an annex to the building permit.
