On the 36th day of the trial against Christian B., all evidence was collected for the criminal chamber. From the perspective of the public prosecutor, the defendant should be in prison for many years.

In the trial against the also in the case Maddie suspects Christian B. of serious sexual offenses and the public prosecutor’s office has demanded 15 years in prison for the defendant. After the prison sentence, preventive detention is necessary, said senior public prosecutor Ute Lindemann before the Braunschweig regional court. If such a verdict were to be reached, the defendant would not be able to be released after serving his sentence.

In a plea lasting several hours, Lindemann had previously explained why she considered the defendant guilty of two counts of rape and two cases of sexual abuse.

At the start of the trial, the 47-year-old German was accused of three rapes and two cases of sexual abuse of children, which he is said to have committed in Portugal between 2000 and 2017. With regard to an accusation of rape, the defendant should be acquitted, said Lindemann. In the morning the criminal chamber closed the taking of evidence.

The trial is attracting a lot of attention because the defendant in the case of the missing three-year-old Madeleine “Maddie” McCann is suspected of murder. However, the Maddie complex is not officially the subject of the current proceedings. The presumption of innocence applies. The defense’s plea is expected on Monday, and the verdict could come on Tuesday.
