The Swedish pop group ABBA became world famous with hits like “Dancing Queen”, “Waterloo” and “Mamma Mia”. In 1982 the four band members separated. Now they announced a new album and virtual shows.

Almost 40 years after the split, the Swedish pop group ABBA announced the release of a new album. It will be released under the title “Voyage” on November 5th, the band announced at an Internet-broadcast event in London. ABBA already presented the new song “I Still Have Faith in You” at the event.

In addition, virtual concerts are planned in which the four band members can be seen as digital images – as “Abbatars”. For this purpose, Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson and Anni-Frid Lyngstad sang every song for five weeks in front of 160 cameras so that every movement could be recorded. The performances are said to begin in London in May 2022.

“It was like no time had passed”

The band had previously announced a “historic livestream” on Twitter, which had caused much speculation. At the same time, press conferences were held in Stockholm, Berlin, London, New York, Sydney and Tokyo. “We recorded a new album with ABBA,” said Andersson and Ulvaeus from London. “It was like no time had passed,” said Andersson, describing the band’s reunion in the studio after decades of separation. “We did it as well as we could at our age,” said the 74-year-old. “First we made one song, then several. Then we said: Why don’t we make a whole album?” Said Ulvaeus.

“We took a break in the spring of 1982 and now we have decided it is time to end it,” ABBA said in a press release. “They say it’s foolhardy to wait more than 40 years between albums, so we recorded a sequel to ‘The Visitors'”. “The Visitors”, the group’s last album to date, was released in 1981.

ABBA became world famous with hits like “Dancing Queen”, “Waterloo”, “Mamma Mia” and “The Winner Takes It All”. In 1982 the band split up after the two married couples Agnetha Fältskog and Björn Ulvaeus as well as Anni-Frid Lyngstad and Benny Andersson got divorced. All four singers are now over 70 years old. In the past 50 years they have sold more than 400 million albums.
