All branches close: German fashion chain has filed for bankruptcy

A German fashion retailer is insolvent. All remaining branches are now closed. Read the details here.

Around six months after the bankruptcy was announced, the lights are finally going out at the fashion chain Zapata. As the “textile economy” reported, the business is now closed. The remaining branches are closing, as is the chain’s online shop. The site is now no longer accessible.

Insolvency administrator Matthias Reinel confirmed to TW that “despite intensive efforts, it was not possible to continue”. The end is justified with the currently difficult situation in retail. Zapata also lost “attraction” after the new bankruptcy at the end of 2022.

The four remaining stores in Passau, Augsburg, Neu-Ulm and Würzburg are affected by the closures. In the end, only 30 people were employed in the branches. Despite the imminent end, there have recently been hardly any layoffs, says Reinel.

Zapata was founded back in 1985. At its peak, the company operated almost 15 locations. After the first bankruptcy in 2016, the number was reduced to nine. According to the latest figures, the chain’s turnover was only 5 to 6 million euros per year.
