What’s the matter again? Centurion Gaius Bonus has Miraculix kidnapped to use the magic potion to overthrow Julius Caesar. Of course it doesn’t work out in the end.
Battered Romans: 15 (information as always without guarantee)
Phrases for eternity: “They are terribly strong!” (Caligula minus)
And otherwise? Asterix’s cinematic career began without the knowledge of its creators René Goscinny/Albert Udérzo. Their publisher, Georges Dargaud, bypassed them in producing the film, which was originally intended to be the start of a TV series. The two didn’t like it that much, also because they didn’t like the drawing style.
Feuilletonistix says: Not a memorable debut. Pretty wooden and uninspired, but it was a hit nonetheless.
