Alcaraz expected, the French a little less … The challenges of this 2022 edition

It’s time for a new Roland-Garros. After a week of qualifying, the tournament really begins this Sunday. Among the men, we are waiting to see the new terror of the circuit, Carlos Alcaraz, winner in Madrid at the beginning of May after having dismissed Rafael Nadal then Novak Djokovic and who never ceases to amaze his world. But the Serb, who has just won in Rome, is back in great shape and remains the big favourite.

Iga Swiatek and Ons Jabeur are expected among the ladies, while French tennis, both male and female, is approaching “its” Grand Slam tournament without any certainty. After a catastrophic 2021 vintage (zero qualified for the 3rd round, a historic first since the start of the open era in 1968), nothing suggests an improvement for this edition which contains some novelties in terms of organization. We summarize it for you in a short video.

(author’s note: it was shot before Richard Gasquet’s victory against world number 2 Daniil Medvedev on Tuesday in Geneva)
