Aiwanger defends hydrogen strategy in the state parliament – Bavaria

Economics Minister Hubert Aiwanger (FW) defended the state government’s hydrogen strategy in the state parliament. Bavaria is doing well in building a hydrogen infrastructure and must remain so, he said in the Economic Committee on Thursday. The element with the abbreviation H2 offers “a great opportunity for diversification”: Instead of being dependent on a few supplier countries for oil and gas, one could position oneself more broadly internationally with the expected hydrogen imports.

The hydrogen strategy, passed in 2020, is considered Aiwanger’s major heart project of this legislative period. The funding program for up to 50 electrolysers throughout Bavaria is scheduled to start in the third quarter of 2023. In addition, according to Aiwanger, the first ten subsidized hydrogen filling stations are nearing completion; the budget for this year also provides 20 million euros for the construction of another ten filling stations.
