Germany now has the most modern government aircraft in the world. Lufthansa Technik handed over the Airbus A350 “Konrad Adenauer” to the Bundeswehr in Hamburg on Wednesday.

The christening took place in the presence of the eponymous grandson of the first Chancellor. The aircraft is intended to strengthen the Federal Ministry of Defense’s readiness to fly on long-haul routes.

Well equipped like no other government aircraft

The new aircraft arrived at Lufthansa Technik at the end of March 2021. According to the information, the newly installed government cabin contains the latest technology. “This is our ‘Air Force One’,” said State Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, Siemtje Möller. The US President has more space in his government aircraft, but no other machine is as well equipped as the new Airbus.

Bedroom, conference area and intensive care unit

The facilities include spacious private rooms with bedroom and bathroom, various conference and office areas and spacious rows of seats in the rear area. There is also an intensive care unit. More than 50 kilometers of cable and 16 tons of material were installed in the machine in which the Federal President and the Federal Chancellor will be traveling in the future.

Third Airbus for the Bundeswehr already in the works

The Bundeswehr ordered three machines of this long-haul type from Airbus in 2019. The first was delivered in August 2020. The third Airbus A350 with the future baptismal name “Theodor Heuss” is already in the works. The Ministry of Defense put the total cost at 1.2 billion euros.
