Breakthrough in the third round: There is an agreement in the collective bargaining between VW and IG Metall. According to the union, the 125,000 employees will receive an 8.5 percent increase in wages and a one-off payment.
According to the IG Metall trade union, it has reached a new in-house wage agreement with Volkswagen. According to the information, this provides for income increases in two steps of 8.5 percent and a one-off payment of 3,000 net. The term is two years. The agreement reached after long negotiations is based on the pilot agreement reached in Baden-Württemberg for the metal and electrical industry.
Agreement after three rounds
The IG Metall wants to inform in the morning in a press conference about the details. “After more than twelve hours of negotiations, IG Metall and Volkswagen were able to reach a collective agreement in the third round in Hanover,” the invitation said. For the employees at the six West German locations of Volkswagen AG and individual Volkswagen subsidiaries, this means more money, more days off and an extension of partial retirement.
IG Metall had demanded eight percent more wages, an extension of the collective agreement on partial retirement, more days off for members of the union and the assumption of the semester fees for dual students at the company. The trade union negotiator, Thorsten Gröger, had explained: “Our expectations of the company are that a decent offer will come up that is as close as possible to our requirements, so that we can have clarity for the employees as quickly as possible.”
The VW company tariff is negotiated for the core workforce at the Braunschweig, Emden, Hanover, Kassel, Salzgitter and Wolfsburg locations as well as some subsidiaries.
