Agnes Bernauer has been dead for almost 600 years, but she is still omnipresent in Straubing’s city center. She is currently emblazoned on various flags of the “Agnes Bernauer Festival,” whose premiere had to be canceled on Friday because of rain. However, it is noticeable that this time – purely in terms of marketing – the pharmacies are weak. While many Agnes Bernauer health drinks were once advertised in their shop windows, this time more conventional beauty products dominate: “Happy ending for warts!” Incidentally, Agnes Bernauer would not have needed such remedies. Legend has it that she was so pretty that you could see the wine she drank running down her throat.
