After the train accident, the route remains closed until carnival week – Bavaria

After the train accident in Peiting, Upper Bavaria, three weeks ago, the route will remain closed until carnival. The construction work on the tracks between Peißenberg and Schongau is expected to last until February 19, as the Bayerische Regiobahn (BRB) announced on Monday. On Shrove Monday, trains are to run again according to the regular timetable.

After the carnival holidays, there will also be the usual train connections for the schoolchildren again, explained the BRB, which runs the route. DB Netz AG is responsible for the track work. The rail replacement buses will run until the end of the construction work.

On January 10, the train coming from Weilheim in the direction of Schongau derailed just before Peiting-Ost station, but no one was injured. The public prosecutor’s office in Munich II is investigating a train driver for endangering rail traffic. Whether the person concerned is at fault is completely open, the authority said. According to an assessment by the Bavarian Regiobahn shortly after the accident, the accident was probably due to a switch failure. There are no new details about the cause or the amount of damage, it said on Monday.
