Bridge builders Habeck and Wissing?

In the talks between the Greens and the FDP there are many differences, especially in social or economic policy, the two parties are far apart: “This is where worlds collide,” said Greens co-leader Robert Habeck soberly on the day after the general election.

But Habeck could play a key role with FDP General Secretary Volker Wissing in overcoming the differences, analyzes Corinna Emundts.

Green offspring clearly against alliance with the Union

The Green Youth vehemently rejects an alliance with CDU / CSU and FDP. “Under no circumstances can we heave the party that was explicitly voted out of office back into the Chancellery,” said federal spokesman Georg Kurz in the “Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung”.

He emphasized: “The Green Youth would not participate in a Jamaica coalition with the Union.” Kurz accused the Union of having fueled the current crises. “An alliance with a party that was rightly punished with the worst result in its history is definitely not an option for the Greens.”

Lambsdorff sees further opportunities for black-green-yellow

The FDP foreign politician Alexander Graf Lambsdorff still believes a Jamaica coalition is possible. “The FDP and the Greens are now talking to each other in order to build bridges between the two parties,” said Lambsdorff of the “Augsburger Allgemeine”. Talks would then be held with the SPD and the Union.

“Whether in the end a Jamaica coalition like in Schleswig-Holstein or, for example, a traffic light like in Rhineland-Palatinate is open.” In terms of program, the FDP is closer to the Union, stressed Lambsdorff. “But we are open to talks with all other parties,” he added.

SPD boss: reform of the debt brake unrealistic

SPD leader Norbert Walter-Borjans considers a reform of the debt brake in the new legislative period to be unrealistic. “Everyone knows that this would require a two-thirds majority in parliament and the Federal Council,” said Walter-Borjans of the Düsseldorf “Rheinische Post”. A reform of the debt brake would not come about without the CDU and CSU, said Walter-Borjans. “Why should we fight with the Greens in talks with the FDP when a necessary fourth partner – namely CDU and CSU – is not available for something like that?”

It is more important that the current debt brake does not become an “investment brake”. “But it doesn’t have to, either,” emphasized the SPD politician. The FDP is also against changing the existing debt brake.
