30 people have already been found dead, about the same number are still missing: rescue workers are still trying to find survivors in the destroyed apartment block in Dnipro that Russia had shelled on Saturday.

Dozens of residents are still missing after a Russian missile hit a high-rise building in the central Ukrainian city of Dnipro, according to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Rescue workers continued to search for more than 30 people in the rubble of the apartment building, the Ukrainian head of state said in his video address:

We fight for every human being. And the rescue work will continue as long as there is even the slightest chance of saving a life.

So far, 30 dead have been recovered from the rubble. The hopes that buried people will still be found alive in the wintry frost are falling by the hour. Rescuers reported hearing screams from under the rubble.

Mayor expects dozens of deaths

Mayor Borys Filatow said he expected dozens of deaths. According to a spokeswoman for the regional governor, 30 wounded are still in the hospital. The chairman of the regional parliament, Mykola Lukaschuk, spoke of a total of 73 injuries. Part of the building had been completely destroyed. According to official information, 38 people, including six children, were rescued by Sunday morning.

Zelenskyj addresses citizens of Russia

Selenskyj thanked in his video address for the international sympathy. He addressed the people in the neighboring country in Russian:

I would like to address everyone in Russia who, even now, does not have a few words of condemnation for this terror, although they see and understand everything clearly. Your cowardly silence will only end with these terrorists coming after you one day.

Russia confirms attacks

The Ukrainian General Staff said Russia launched three waves of attacks on Saturday, using 57 missiles, among others. 26 of them were shot down. Ukraine’s army department in the south said Russia had fired only half of the cruise missiles it had put on standby in the Black Sea. “It shows that they still have plans,” spokeswoman Natalia Humeniuk said.

The attacks also hit parts of the infrastructure in Kyiv and other places. Authorities said that the power supply in the capital and large parts of the country was restricted. The Russian Defense Ministry confirmed the missile strikes and said all targets had been hit.

Location in Soledar and Bachmut unclear

The situation in the particularly hard-fought areas of Soledar and Bakhmut in eastern Ukraine remained unclear. The Ministry of Defense in Moscow said that territory had been gained in the Bakhmut area, and Russian soldiers were approaching the northern suburbs of the city.

President Vladimir Putin was satisfied and spoke of a positive trend. “I hope our fighters will please us with more results of their battles,” he said on the Rossiya 1 channel. Everything is going according to plan.
