A flooded railway tunnel near London has brought train traffic through the Eurotunnel between Great Britain and mainland Europe to a standstill. The operator canceled all connections for today.
The railway company Eurostar has canceled more than a dozen trains between London and mainland Europe due to flooded tunnels in the south of Great Britain. As the British railway company Southeastern Railway announced on the online service Thousands of travelers are stuck in St. Pancras.
The British weather service Met Office issued weather warnings for rain, snow and ice in large parts of the country.
Eurostar operates long-distance rail services between London and Paris, Brussels and Amsterdam. According to the information, 14 trains were initially canceled on Saturday. Southeastern said the disruptions would continue “until the end of the day.”
Strike just ended
It is the second disruption to train services to London under the English Channel in ten days. After the end of an unannounced strike by French employees of the tunnel operator Getlink shortly before Christmas, train services only resumed on Friday a week ago.
