Scooter Braun is one of the top music managers in the USA. He discovered and promoted young talents such as Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande early on. Now he is retiring as manager.

Music mogul Scooter Braun (42), the former manager of stars such as Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande and Demi Lovato, is retiring from the management business after 23 years. The successful but also controversial manager announced his professional decision in a long Instagram post.

He began his career as a 19-year-old and never dreamed that he would be involved in the development of some of the most “extraordinarily talented” people in the world. During those years, he was there for his clients around the clock, but that is now over. He will continue to work as CEO of the entertainment giant Hybe America and will now focus primarily on his three children, Braun wrote.

In his article, Braun looks at his partnership with artists such as Zac Brown, Tori Kelly, Carly Rae Jepsen, Quavo, Kanye West, Demi Lovato, Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber. Grande and Bieber were young teenagers when he became their manager. He says it is always one of his “greatest honors” to see how the two have grown “into legends.”

Bieber and Grande distance themselves from manager

Last year, according to media reports, several stars, including Bieber and Grande, distanced themselves from Braun. The manager now writes on Instagram that some of his biggest clients have decided to take a “new direction.”

The influential manager has also received criticism in the industry for allegedly ruthless practices. Pop star Taylor Swift has accused him of unfair practices for years. In 2019, a holding company owned by Braun acquired Swift’s former record label Big Machine – and with it the rights to Swift’s albums – for more than $300 million. The singer lamented that this happened without consultation or her consent.
