Until recently, the country was considered exemplary, but now it is groaning under its debt. On his trip to Africa, the finance minister is now making a stop in Accra. The federal government also wants to help out of its own interest.

If the Federal Minister of Finance had come just a little earlier, it could have been a journey full of beautiful pictures and good news. For years, Ghana was regarded as Africa’s economic and political role model, as convincing proof that democracy and development, growth and prosperity are also possible on the battered continent that has been exploited by the rich north for so long.
