Another attack has taken place in the Afghan capital Kabul. According to the Taliban, three attackers died in the attack on a hotel and two foreign hotel guests were injured.

Several assassins have attacked a hotel popular with foreigners in the Afghan capital Kabul. As the spokesman for the militant Islamist Taliban, Sabihullah Mujahid, reported, three attackers were killed. Two foreign guests were injured when they jumped out of the window while trying to escape.

Explosions and gunfire could be heard in the area. Video footage on social media showed smoke rising from the building. A hospital in Kabul said there was an explosion near a hotel about a kilometer away and shots were fired. 21 people were brought with injuries. Three were already dead upon arrival. A spokesman for the Kabul police, Khalid Sadran, said the attack lasted for several hours. A “cleansing operation” is ongoing. At first, no one claimed responsibility for the incident.

Visit of many Chinese businessmen

The hotel mainly accommodates Chinese. Since the radical Islamic Taliban returned to power, many Chinese businessmen have been visiting Afghanistan. Although Beijing does not officially recognize the Taliban government, it kept its embassy in Afghanistan open even after it took power in August last year. The Taliban have since made improving security one of their priorities.

Last Sunday, the Chinese ambassador met with the Taliban and asked to ensure the security of Chinese diplomats in Kabul.

Since the militant Islamist Taliban took power after the withdrawal of the allied forces led by the USA in August 2021, the terrorist militia “Islamic State” has intensified its attacks in the country. Like the Taliban, IS is a Sunni group, but both are in bitter rivalry with one another. At the beginning of December, several attacks shook the Afghan capital.
