Awning: what are we talking about exactly?

More resistant than a parasol, the awning is a device whose primary objective is to allow its owner to create a shadow area and freshness. It is a stretched canvas that protects a terrace as well as a window, an entrance door or a balcony by playing a thermal shield role.

Beyond its aesthetic side and its practicality, this device seduces by its ecological aspect. Homes that chooseinstall an awning tailored on their terrace can thus reduce the energy needs of their home in summer. Installed in front of the bay windows and patio doors, the device allows them to regulate the interior temperature of their home, while bringing a good dose of freshness. In doing so, the inhabitants of the accommodation stay cool without having to operate their air conditioner or ventilation system.

There are also several types of awnings: the models of awnings with box, models with semi-box and monobloc models without box.

Manual awnings are by far the most ecological

Awnings, whatever the type, can be manual or motorized. Although the latter are by far the most practical and the most pleasant to use, we have to admit that the former have the advantage of being more ecological. And for good reason, manual models do not require any energy to operate, unlike their motorized counterparts. More specifically, the unfolding and storage of the Web are done manually using a crank. Their handling is just as smooth and they are never subject to a blackout.

The crank awnings also have the advantage of being affordable in terms of price and relatively easy to set up. the downside is that they can wear out more quickly and are also less autonomous. In addition, the greater the advance of the canvas, the more tedious its opening and closing.

If you want to opt for a manual awning to reduce your carbon footprint, the canvas is the very first detail to which your attention must be paid. A canvas must be qualitative enough to fully resist UV rays, to be able to filter them effectively and of course to be able to resist over time. The microperforated fabrics are the most recommended. They resist the sun’s rays and reject them at 79%. These fabrics allow air to pass easily for optimal ventilation and limit heat absorption.

Acrylic fabrics are able to filter up to 80% of UVA and UVB rays, while avoiding the greenhouse effect. In addition, it is better to opt for a model with semi-box or full box. It is of course the box which protects the canvas and the mechanism of the device. It therefore prolongs the life of the awning.

Better to repair a faulty awning rather than change the entire device

When your awning breaks down, instead of throwing it away for a new device, it is advisable to have it repaired and give it a second life cycle. Indeed, repairing a defective device is doing something for the planet since it fights against the increase in toxicity and the volume of waste that we produce. This gesture limits the depletion of natural reserves of raw materials and drastically reduces pollution linked to overconsumption.

The fact of exchanging the element which has already had its day for a spare part in excellent condition ensures a extended lifespan of its awning. In addition, having a broken device repaired will be cheaper than buying a new one. The failure is in most cases due to an element already at the end of its life. It is therefore sufficient to replace it and the device can still be used.

For example, if you notice that the crank is struggling to unwind the awning, the mechanical winch may be faulty. So, it suffices to replace this winch to find an easy operation of its manual awning. If we have a motorized blind, and its engine is malfunctioning, a professional can diagnose it and then advise the owner and troubleshoot. For the sake of reliability, it is better to change the motor directly.

If the canvas does not roll up properly, it may be due to either an engine that is about to tire, or a problem with the arm. In any case, we can find detached pieces of excellent quality on platforms specializing in the sale of awnings.

Why choose a custom awning?

A custom-made awning is undoubtedly the best solution for modulating solar radiation as well as the natural ventilation of a room. Its dimensions and more particularly his progress effectively protect the room to be shaded, but also the terrace and the garden.

Whether it is a monobloc model, with full or semi-safe, such a device is designed to be able to adapt as closely as possible to the needs and requirements of its owner, even the most specific. It is also almost infinitely flexible and is therefore a particularly interesting investment.
