The fact that the traffic light coalition wants to abolish the controversial advertising ban on abortion with paragraph 219a leads to much cheers on Twitter – but not everyone.

The prospective traffic light coalition wants to abolish the controversial advertising ban for abortions. “Doctors should be able to provide public information about abortions without having to fear prosecution,” says the coalition agreement between the SPD, the Greens and the FDP that was presented on Wednesday. Therefore, the corresponding paragraph 219a of the Criminal Code should be deleted.

The aim is to strengthen women’s right to self-determination and to create security of supply. Pregnancy conflict counseling should be possible online. “Legal measures” are to come against harassing actions by anti-abortionists. Health insurance companies should be able to reimburse contraceptives as a statutory benefit. “The costs are taken over for low-wage earners,” it continues. At the same time, better support should come for those who do not want to have children.

Great pleasure on Twitter

The news triggers a lot of approval on Twitter. Doctor Kristina Hänel, who has fought for the abolition of the paragraph for years, writes: “Have you heard? # 219a is being deleted. That would be done. I’m going to vaccinate now.”

Twitter user “Ms. Adebar” replies: “I cannot thank you and everyone who fought for it enough! The next step is to train enough colleagues again to enable women everywhere to have a safe dropout.”

The journalist Eva Horn tweets: “Bye bye 219a, nobody will miss you.”

Also Reyhan Şahin – better known as “Lady Bitch Ray” – writes: “# 219a is now to be deleted, which means that doctors are allowed to publicly inform and provide medical education about abortions. Actually, of course, but thanks to the long-term struggle of pioneers and feminists, now finally achieved.”

Consent from men too

Several prominent men also comment on the deletion of paragraph 219a on Twitter, about “Marcus Ewald”: “Fortunately and finally: Advice on abortion is finally no longer punishable.”

SPD politician Micha Heitkamp writes: “The farce around # 219a could be seen as a symbol for the entire GroKo: A hasty abolition was already a done deal. Then we rowed back, discussed for a long time and found a compromise that does not help anyone in practice. Now is a new coalition with a clear line . “

And a user named “Parzival” tweeted: “Germany has finally found out that the Middle Ages are over and has deleted # 219a. That was a highly misogynistic paragraph that only the right-wing extremists liked.”

Other users criticize the deletion of §219a

But there is also criticism. This is how “Max” tweeted: “Abortion is not legalized. 219a should be abolished, so only the advertising ban for abortion. Which is still wrong”.

and “Florian Hustede” writes: “Anyone who wants to abolish 219a is not concerned with information, but with advertising. The law was amended under the Groko so that information does not fall under it. Anyone who wants to abolish that now wants to allow advertising for abortions. Period.”
