Adobe Express: Creative tool for graphics noobs

Adobe has released a public beta version of Adobe Express. The tool collection, formerly known as Adobe Spark, is intended to enable users without a design degree to create social media posts with text graphics, videos, websites and logos.

With Express, Adobe wants to pick up employees from marketing, among other things, who, although not full-time, always maintain appearances on social media for their company on the side. The documents created with Express can also be edited with the professional tools of the Creative Cloud.

In the current beta, the Adobe Express start page offers various templates, including for social media, video, photo and documents. The one for social networks starts with templates for TikTok, Instagram and Facebook, for example.

According to Adobe, the current beta version contains a collection of around 200 million building blocks, so-called assets, with which laypersons should quickly get results. This includes design templates, images, videos, audio tracks, fonts, brush tips and more. A Smartlayout function independently creates finished designs from the components.

Adobe is also incorporating Firefly’s generative AI into Express. In contrast to the recently introduced Photoshop beta, the one for pictorial text effects can be found here in addition to the AI image generator. All content generated with Firefly can be used both privately and commercially, because Adobe has only used content licensed on Adobe Stock and in the public domain for the training.

Adobe Express can be used as a web app in the browser and as a mobile app on smartphones and tablets on Android and iOS. However, the public beta is not yet available as a mobile app.

In the beta version, several colleagues can work together as a team on a document, share results with others, comment on them and play them back again. Embedded documents such as image files are linked by Adobe Express. They can be opened, edited and closed in Photoshop or Illustrator. Express will then update the image. Other applications such as InDesign and Premiere Pro are to follow.

Embedded image material can be opened from Adobe Express in Photoshop with one click and reloaded immediately after saving.

It is not yet known when the update for Adobe Express will leave beta status. The current version of the online tool collection is free in the Basic edition. For EUR 11.89 a month, you can choose from 160 million stock photos, use 20,000 licensed fonts from Adobe Fonts and export PDF documents, among other things. In addition, 100 GB of cloud storage space is available with the subscription; Adobe Express Basic offers only two.
