Several urgent requests rejected

Administrative court confirms further demo bans for “lateral thinkers”
The Berlin police have banned 13 demonstrations planned for the weekend by opponents of the Corona measures. Urgent applications, however, were rejected. This also applies to the events for which more than 20,000 people have been registered.
The Berlin administrative court has confirmed several bans on demonstrations by opponents of the corona measures. The judges rejected such urgent requests on Friday. As the court confirmed to the rbb, this also includes a “lateral thinking” meeting, to which 22,500 participants were registered. As a justification, a spokesman said that the delta variant of the corona virus also spreads outdoors.
Also a demonstration planned for Sunday under the motto “For Peace, Freedom, Truth” with 3,500 people remains banned after the decision of the court. The Berlin police had the meetings essentially citing it forbids that such demonstrations are regularly violated against infection protection.
Violations of hygiene rules feared
In the first decision on the “For Peace, Freedom, Truth” demonstration, the court said it shared the prognosis of the police, according to which there is an imminent threat to the right to life and physical integrity through the announced gathering. Such an immediate danger arises from the increased risk due to the delta variant, which is predominantly widespread in Germany, and its possible dissemination by the meeting participants, according to the court in the reasoning for the decision. The increased risk of infection already arising within Berlin as a result of the planned meetings is increasing due to the arrival of the participants from all over Germany.
An appeal against the decision can be lodged with the Higher Administrative Court (OVG) Berlin-Brandenburg. An OVG spokeswoman said on Friday that there was still no complaint.
The police had on Thursday twelve demonstrations planned for the weekend banned – on Friday the police announced that a 13th demonstration was also banned. It is suspected that, despite the demo bans, many opponents of the corona measures travel to Berlin.
“Trademark and stated goal” not to wear a mask
According to the police, all demo bans affect events “whose participants regularly do not accept legal regulations, specifically to protect against infections,” as police spokesman Thilo Cablitz announced on Thursday.
In past demonstrations, participants have “repeatedly demonstrated that these infection protection rules are regularly and almost without exception due to a lack of acceptance.” At some events, the refusal to wear a face-to-face mask was part of the political demand and at the demonstration itself it was “a formal trademark and declared goal”.
