“Miracles happen”: Anne Hathaway announces film sequel
Anne Hathaway made her famous role as the princess in the comedy “Suddenly Princess” over 20 years ago. After the first sequel, fans were hoping for another episode – now confirmation.
Fans have been waiting for this for a long time: an Oscar winner Anne Hathaway (“Les Misérables”) returns to the big screen in another sequel to the comedy hit “Sudden Princess.” “Miracles happen,” the actress said happily in an Instagram post. “Back to Genovia” – the fairy tale continues. In a short video with clips of her and co-star Julie Andrews from the first two parts, she beams and holds three fingers into the camera at the end. The 41-year-old linked relevant industry reports about the planned sequel to the Disney film.
Adele Lim is now on board as director for the third part. The Malaysian-born author previously worked on the screenplay for the hit comedy “Crazy Rich Asians” and directed the film “Joy Ride”. She is a die-hard fan of “Suddenly Princess” and looks forward to celebrating core themes such as female strength, joy and mentorship with a global audience.
“Pretty Woman” director Garry Marshall (1934-2016) brought the then unknown Hathaway in front of the camera for the film fairy tale “Suddenly Princess” (2001). She played the young Mia, who learns from her royal grandmother from Europe (Andrews) that she is a real princess and should become heir to the throne in the fictional country of Genovia. Marshall also directed the sequel in 2004 with Hathaway and Andrews.
Nothing was initially known about the content of the third part or the other cast alongside Hathaway. The now 89-year-old Brit Andrews had expressed interest in another appearance as the blue-blooded Clarisse Renaldi in previous interviews.
