Actress Amber Heard drops appeal in her lawsuit against Johnny Depp

Actress Amber Heard announced on Monday that she has reached an agreement to end the appeal proceedings in the defamation lawsuit which opposed her in the United States to her former husband Johnny Depp.

“After long consideration I have made the difficult decision to enter into an agreement,” the star wrote in a lengthy statement posted on Instagram.

“Not going through this a third time…”

After six weeks of a show trial, Amber Heard was sentenced at first instance to pay 10 million dollars to her ex-husband, against two million for the latter. A month ago, the 36-year-old American actress had formalized her desire to appeal, before doing an about-face, therefore, this Monday. “Even if my appeal to the American courts were successful, the best outcome would be a new trial, during which a new jury would have to analyze the evidence. I just can’t get through this a third time,” she said.

A Tribune in the Washington Post, published in 2018, is at the origin of the legal battle between the former spouses, married from 2015 to 2017. Amber Head claimed to have been the victim of domestic violence, without however citing her ex-husband. Johnny Depp then sued him for defamation to obtain $50 million in damages. The actress had counter-attacked, asking for the double.
