Because of the human rights situation in Qatar, the deal between FC Bayern Munich and Qatar Airways is not only controversial among their own fans. According to a report, the club now wants to extend the deal despite all the criticism.

The World Cup in Qatar has again brought the local human rights situation into focus. Since summer 2018 the Qatari state company Qatar Airways is one of the sponsors of FC Bayern Munich – much to the displeasure of numerous Bayern fans. Things were already getting busy at the 2021 annual general meeting, and in 2022 the initiator of the application to end sponsorship of Qatar Airways even had to be mobbed by Uli Hoeneß.

Nevertheless, according to a media report, FC Bayern Munich wants to extend the multi-million dollar deal with Qatar Airways. According to reports, the sponsorship should bring the club around 17 million euros a year so far. The team is currently at the training camp in Doha before starting the second half of the 2022/23 Bundesliga season at RB Leipzig on January 20th. As the “ZDF Morgenmagazin” reportsthe club probably wants to extend the deal that expires in 2023. In conversation with “Image” club boss Oliver Kahn announced last Friday: “We will start the talks now. First it will be a matter of taking stock and then re-assessing each other’s interests. We will discuss sporting, economic and social issues.” When asked about an extension, Kahn replied to the newspaper: “As I said: We are now holding talks. There will be no water level reports.”

Is Bayern Munich extending with Qatar Airways?

on star– FC Bayern Munich has not yet commented on a possible extension of the sponsorship with Qatar Airways. Michael Ott, initiator of the Qatar application at FC Bayern, expresses himself on ZDF critical: “There is no topic that divides the club as much as this Qatar sponsorship and obviously the club management doesn’t care.” The chairman of Human Rights Watch Germany, Wenzel Michalski, also criticizes a possible extension of the sponsorship on ZDF: “It’s disappointing and it also makes me angry with what arrogance FC Bayern decides to continue – although many of their own fans oppose it are.”

Now it will be shown how much human rights are worth to FC Bayern.
