A fire at a petrol depot in Jarkata injured 35 people and killed 19. How did the accident happen?

According to the authorities, 19 people have been killed in a major fire in an Indonesian fuel depot. Three people were still missing after the fire on Friday evening, it said on Sunday. At least 35 people suffered severe burns. Several houses in the vicinity of the plant in the densely populated north of the capital Jakarta were destroyed.

The investigation into the cause of the fire continued on Sunday. The state-owned energy company Pertamina announced that a leak in a pipeline had previously been discovered. Fires had already broken out in plants belonging to the Pertamina group in recent years. In 2021, a major fire at a refinery in West Java province injured more than 20 people and forced more than 1,000 people to leave their homes.
