Accident in the Greek military: A fighter jet crashes during a training flight. So far there is no trace of the pilots – the hope of recovering the two pilots alive is dwindling.

After a Greek fighter plane crashed over the Ionian Sea in the west of the country, the two pilots of the jet are missing.

As reported by the Greek State Broadcasting Corporation (ERT), the pilots of another Greek aircraft saw the crash of the F-4 Phantom 2 machine. At the time of the accident, the pilots of the supported jet were practicing a low-level flight west of the coast of the Peloponnese peninsula.

The hope of recovering the pilots alive is dwindling, experts on state radio said. Rescue teams found wreckage from the machine that crashed at sea, but so far there is no trace of the occupants, Greek media reported, citing the general staff.

The accident is not associated with the tensions between Greece and Turkey from circles of the Ministry of Defense in Athens. The NATO countries have been fighting over sovereign rights in the Aegean and the eastern Mediterranean for decades.
