There are frequent accidents on the railways in India. Now there is a new accident. What happened?

In a train collision in At least 15 people have died in a train crash in India. Several others were also injured, local media such as the news agency PTI reported, citing authorities. According to the report, a freight train collided with a passenger train in the state of West Bengal on Monday. The carriages carrying passengers then derailed.

India is the most populous country in the world with around 1.4 billion inhabitants and also has one of the largest railway networks in the world. Many trains are old and some tracks are in need of repair. Accidents keep happening. The worst so far happened in 1981, when at least 800 people died. Recently, the Indian government has invested heavily in modernizing the railways, including in high-speed trains.
