Small plane crashes – and stays in the garden

That could have ended horribly. Two injured and a battered garden – that’s the balance of a small plane crash.

Two people were injured when a small plane crashed at Hangelar airfield near Bonn on Wednesday.

The single-engine Cessna crashed at the start for reasons that are still unclear, said a spokesman for the Sankt Augustin volunteer fire brigade. The plane then rolled over the nearby Stadtbahn tracks, rolled over and then continued to slide on the roof. It was left lying in the garden of a two-family house.

The two occupants could have saved themselves from the plane, the spokesman said. One of the men was taken to the Bonn University Hospital in a rescue helicopter, the other to the Troisdorf hospital in an ambulance. About 80 firefighters were on duty. Experts searched the scene of the accident for the cause of the crash.
