A seven-year-old died after an accident on Autobahn 70 near Stettfeld (Haßberge district). A twelve-year-old was taken to a clinic with serious injuries, the police announced on Saturday. Accordingly, the father of the two children drove his car off the road to the right at midday for an initially unknown reason and crashed into a broken down truck that was standing on the hard shoulder. The 45-year-old’s two children were sitting in the front passenger seat and in the back seat behind it.
The seven-year-old in the back seat suffered life-threatening injuries as a result of the collision. A rescue helicopter flew the boy to a hospital. He died there from his injuries a short time later. According to the information, the twelve-year-old’s life was not in danger. The father suffered minor injuries and was in shock; the truck driver was uninjured. After the accident, the A70 was completely closed in the direction of Bayreuth for several hours. The investigation into the cause of the accident was ongoing.
