About the World Climate Conference: Photo competition shows outstanding environmental photos – these are the winners

It is the 14th time that the “Environmental Photographer of the Year” (EPOTY) has been awarded. Once again this year, photographers from all over the world competed for the award with their environmental photographs. In total, the jury evaluated over 7,000 photos from more than 120 countries that were submitted for the competition.

Focus on the environment and people

The award aims to provide an international platform that draws attention to the environmental problems that threaten our planet. The contributions revolve around man’s ability to survive in his environment and how he finds innovative ways to cope with it. They draw the observer’s attention, but also to the effects that human existence has on nature and the environment. The award sharpens the critical eye for human-induced changes and encourages more sustainable action that is oriented towards the future.

The competition supports the United Nations’ “Sustainable Development Goals” and would like to draw attention to how closely development, poverty reduction, equality and security are linked to climate protection. This year’s winner was announced at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) in Glasgow. The prize is endowed with 10,000 pounds, which corresponds to around 11,700 euros. In addition to the main winner, other photographers will be honored in various sub-categories. We present them here.
