Abitur in Bavaria: It starts on Wednesday – Bavaria

Around 35,000 schoolchildren in Bavaria will start their Abitur exams this week. Minister of Education Michael Piazolo (Free Voters) wished them good nerves and much success. “Now it’s time to keep a cool head, activate previous knowledge and show creativity when applying what you’ve learned,” he said on Monday.

In North Rhine-Westphalia there had been a technical glitch in the Abitur last week: around a third of the 900 schools had not been able to download the tasks in some subjects. The start of the exams therefore had to be postponed by one day. Something like this cannot happen in Bavaria: According to the ministry, the Abitur tasks are transmitted in paper form and opened at the schools on the morning of the respective examination day.

According to the Ministry of Culture, the written exams in the Free State begin on Wednesday with German. This is followed by a freely selectable subject and math. Between May 15th and 26th there will be oral exams in two other subjects.

The students will receive their certificates on June 30th. According to the ministry, the consequences of the Corona crisis will also be taken into account in the Abitur examinations this year: Content that is not relevant to the examination was published at an early stage. In addition, the young people have 30 minutes more time for the written exams this year.
