The plans of the listed electric air taxi manufacturer Lilium are slowly taking on solid structures. The Swiss technology group ABB wants to develop a fast charging network with up to 1000 kilowatts for the Munich-based company.

The Swiss technology group ABB and the Munich electromobility group Lilium are continuing to work on the development of a functioning infrastructure for air taxis in large cities. Together, the companies want to develop, test and provide a fast charging network for electric aircraft. The ABB charging stations should fully charge the batteries of the small aircraft in about 30 minutes and enable each e-air taxi to fly 20 to 25 flights per day, Lilium announced on Wednesday.

Lilium plans to start air taxi production in 2024

The MegaWatt charging system is intended to enable charging with direct current with an output of up to 1000 kilowatts and can also be used for heavy electric trucks and buses. Lilium boss Daniel Wiegand said: “Together we want to set the industry standard for charging electric aircraft.” The Head of ABB’s Electromobility Division, Frank Muehlon, said: “By supporting the new MegaWatt charging standard, ABB E-Mobility is paving the way for the electrification of all modes of transport, from cars and trucks to ships, mining vehicles and now also aviation . “

The aircraft manufacturer Lilium, listed on the US stock exchange Nasdaq, plans to start series production and operation of regional flight services in Germany, Florida and Brazil in 2024. The seven-seater electric jets with a range of 250 kilometers are supposed to take off and land vertically, but cover the distance with the help of wings like conventional aircraft.
