Leo in Paris will not have a sequel. The series was stopped after two mixed seasons and the main actor, Lionel Messi, returned to this adventure in an interview broadcast by beIN Sports. The new Inter Miami player in MLS, who celebrated his 36th birthday on Saturday, explains: “I came to Paris because I liked the club, I had friends there in the locker room (…) seemed easier to adapt to than somewhere else I could have gone”.
“In reality, it was a very difficult adaptation, much more than I expected”, he confides, due in particular to “a new way of playing, new teammates, a new city “. The seven-time Ballon d’Or lamented that he “arrived late” at PSG, without “pre-season preparation”.
“At first it was great”
His first season, in which he only scored 11 goals in 34 games, was also complicated after he contracted Covid in Argentina during the winter break, which forced him to be “virtually off for a month. The world champion “took time to regain physical form”, before showing much more convincing performances at the start of the following season, until the World Cup.
The Winter World Cup “played a lot” according to him since “some came back later than others, some were injured, like Neymar”. In the process, PSG took the door to the Champions League in the round of 16, as in 2022. “A very big disappointment” for the Argentinian, which earned him to be taken in dislike by a fringe of PSG fans.
“At first it was great, I received a lot of encouragement (…) but afterwards, part of the Parisian public treated me differently. The majority treated me well, but there was a break with part of the public, ”he explained. “I was lucky to win everything and that’s what will remain at the end of my career”, he however minimized.
