The drama occurred in the early morning. This Sunday, around 8 am, “a couple of parents came to the Maintenon fire station, near Chartres, with their two-year-old boy in cardio-respiratory arrest” and who died shortly after, said Rémi Coutin, public prosecutor of Chartres. “In view of the first elements, it was decided to place the father in police custody for the count of intentional homicide by descent on a minor of fifteen years”, added the prosecutor.
The prosecution, however, does not immediately exclude that it is a manslaughter, given the possibility that the baby was “hit and run over by a vehicle possibly belonging to his parents”, according to the same source. The father was taken into custody with a high blood alcohol level, the prosecutor said. The mother was heard as a witness.
An autopsy scheduled for Monday
The family is part of the Traveler community. They had been in this camp for about two and a half months. An autopsy must take place Monday morning at the forensic institute in Garches (Hauts-de-Seine). For the investigation, the Chartres prosecutor’s office contacted the Lucé Research Brigade (BR) and the Maintenon brigade community.
