A torch from the 1968 Winter Olympics sold for 110,000 euros

It is one of the 33 copies used to contain the flame of the 1968 Winter Olympics which took place in Grenoble. On Friday, an Olympic torch was bought at auction in Lyon for 110,000 euros by an American.

The starting price for this torch, 70 cm long, made of copper and partially covered with a piece of fabric with the inscription “Xe Jeux Olympiques d’Hiver Grenoble 1968”, was set at 60,000 euros. According Progress, it flew in a few minutes above 100,000 euros. The last auction of Maison Millon, which is at its fourth Olympic torch sold, went for 170,000 euros.

Since last May, it has been possible to see one of these rare torches at the Musée Dauphinois in Grenoble.
