A teacher of the French school of Montreal charged

A teacher from the French high school in Montreal was charged on Tuesday with sexual assault on one of his students and sexual harassment on several others, according to Quebec court documents.

Released after a short appearance in the Montreal court, he was immediately suspended by the establishment. This professor of economics and social sciences at Stanislas high school, who had no criminal record, faces a dozen charges including assault and sexual exploitation of a minor.

The facts occurred between November 1, 2019 and December 31, 2022 and the victims are boys and girls aged 16 to 18. In an email sent to parents and seen by AFP, the establishment said “having been informed by the press of the arrest” and having suspended the teacher.

Released pending trial

“We unreservedly condemn all the behavior reported in the media and wish to express all our compassion and support for the victims of abuse,” added Thomas Saène, the principal of the establishment which welcomes some 2,700 pupils from kindergarten to high school senior year.

Released pending trial, the teacher is prohibited from approaching anyone under the age of 16, from using social networks and from being within 200 meters of the Stanislas establishment. This arrest comes after several similar cases in Quebec schools.
