A “support cell” will be set up for targeted Renaissance elected officials

The Renaissance party has set up a support system for its executives and elected officials targeted by threats or violence, which has risen sharply in the context of the challenge to the pension reform, he said on Monday.

The “support, aid and support cell” began to be deployed on Monday, a senior executive of the Macronist party told AFP, confirming information from RTL. It will be available to elected officials, executives and representatives of Renaissance.

Legal and psychological assistance

The system includes legal, material and psychological assistance to react to “threats which have multiplied in recent weeks”, with in particular numerous degradations of the offices of parliamentarians. A telephone line will be set up, as well as a digital discussion loop where everyone can quickly report facts.

Legal assistance must make it possible to refer as quickly as possible to the competent judicial authorities and to lawyers, “without replacing the judicial authority or the work of the investigation services”.

Advice will also be sent to parliamentarians to protect their offices and provide investigators with enough information “to apprehend the perpetrators”. “Our security manager will give them a video during the week,” said the executive. “A memo of good practices” will also be distributed to report hate content on the Internet and better protect mailboxes.

Braun-Pivet targeted

On the psychological level, it is a question of directing towards professionals to allow listening, in particular collaborators or parliamentary assistants in the first line in the constituency in the face of damage or malicious letters.

The presidency of the National Assembly indicated last week that it had identified twenty hostile actions towards deputies in a few days, out of a total of sixty since the start of the legislature. Yaël Braun-Pivet, president of the institution and member of Renaissance, denounced a “massive phenomenon” on Sunday, announcing that she had filed a complaint after having herself received an “absolutely abominable threatening letter”.
