A school affected by a fire in Chartres-de-Bretagne

It is closed this Thursday morning. It will remain so at least until Monday. In Chartres-de-Bretagne, near Rennes (Ille-et-Vilaine), the private Sainte-Marie school was affected by a fire around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday evening. According to the first observations, the fire would have started in a classroom of one of the three buildings. The first observations made by the gendarmes suggest an accidental origin. “Everything remains to be confirmed but the fire would have started from an electrical panel”, specifies an officer of the gendarmerie in 20 minutes.

Quickly present on the scene, the 34 firefighters managed to contain the fire in only one of the three buildings of the school, which accommodates around 280 students. A classroom, a multipurpose room, a meeting room and sanitary facilities were affected by the flames and are badly damaged. About 150 m² are concerned, out of the 400 m² that the school buildings occupy. As the school was empty at the time of the incident, no one was injured.

The leisure center open to children

Parents at the school were encouraged to keep their children at home. For those who are unable to do so, the town hall of Chartres-de-Bretagne has opened several rooms within the leisure center.
