A remarkable change of course in asylum policy – Opinion

Now the time has come: Nancy Faeser sees a “historic momentum” for a new European asylum system. In the traffic light coalition, it has already been agreed that at least some of the asylum procedures will take place at the EU’s external borders, says the Interior Minister. Really? It would be a breakthrough after many years of fruitless debate and a remarkable change of course by the Greens, which have always criticized such institutions on the fringes of Europe. It will soon become clear whether Faeser’s optimism is primarily due to the election campaign and her top candidacy in Hesse, or whether there will actually be an agreement.
