Macabre discovery for an inhabitant of Saintes, in Charente-Maritime, last Wednesday. He found at the side of the road, in a plastic bag, a small dead puppy, disembowelled and eviscerated. The animal also had a shattered skull and jaw with traces of burns on the body, says
France Blue.

The police quickly tracked down the dog’s owner: a 20-year-old Saintais seen mistreating his puppy a few days earlier. While he denied the facts in custody, the medical examination confirmed that abuse was the cause of the animal’s death. Judged in immediate appearance Friday, this man was sentenced to two years in prison, including one year, with a definitive ban on keeping an animal.
