A man now 50 years old appears from Monday before the Assizes of Gard. He is accused of having voluntarily killed his ex-companion, a homeless like him, who had announced to him shortly before his decision to leave him.
The body of the victim was found on August 29, 2014 on the railway in Manduel, a town in the Gard located about ten kilometers from Nîmes, mutilated after the passage of a train.
Investigators had initially considered suicide, but the autopsy revealed that the victim had been strangled to death. During the investigation, the accused allegedly lied to investigators about his schedule. The victim, moreover, would have denounced to his relatives the regular acts of violence of the accused. The verdict is expected for Thursday.
Accused by this same assize court for two rapes in 2014 and 2016
The accused, a former employee of green spaces at the town hall of Avignon, in the Vaucluse, was already sentenced in March 2019 to ten years in prison. He had been tried by the same Assize Court of Gard for two rapes. One committed in 2014 on a woman with a disability, the other in 2016 by chemical submission.
