After nine months of work, it is finally revealed. Since Monday in Nantes, the huge bicycle parking lot at the North Station is operational. Small nuance, however: this is a temporary version before the final Cyclo station is officially inaugurated in November. While it is already possible to attach a two-wheeler to it on one of the 180 temporary supports, this new type of car park will eventually accommodate some 700 bicycles.
Free, parking will be on two levels with 16 spaces for cargo bikes. Cyclists will also find an inflation and repair station, as well as 40 Bicloo terminals. One way to encourage travelers to come by bicycle rather than by car. “Around the SNCF station, we will have a thousand places for bicycles against 2,600 for cars. In 2030, we will increase to 6,000 spaces for bicycles and still 2,600 for cars, ”calculates Nicolas Martin, vice-president in charge of soft mobility in Nantes Métropole.
A green roof
Little coquetry, the Cyclo station (whose delivery was delayed due to a problem of availability of raw materials) offers a roof of 720 m2 entirely green, visible from the mezzanine. A “vegetal glow” echoing those of the north square renovated two years ago, which this time represents “a dune landscape”.
