Faced with an unprecedented influx of minor migrants and the saturation of reception facilities, the Alpes-Maritimes prefecture has just ordered the requisition of a hotel in Antibes to accommodate them. According to a decree published on Tuesday and spotted by BFM Nice Côte d’Azur, the Appart’City, chemin de Saint-Claude, must therefore be reserved for them “for one month”.
The establishment “is requisitioned for the benefit of the Alpes-Maritimes departmental council in order to allow the reception of unaccompanied minors in a vulnerable situation”, and for which the community is responsible, under child protection, indicates the text signed by the director of the prefect’s cabinet.
A new “arrival” on Monday
A decision taken to “ensure the care of these people in decent and dignified conditions” and in order “to prevent disturbances to public order of any kind”, specifies the decree.
Last week, the State services already indicated that “690 unaccompanied minors” were “currently taken care of” in the department, “a level never reached”. And this figure continues to increase according to the text published on Tuesday, which reports a new “arrival of a significant number” of these minor migrants on Monday.
