A female driver receives a bullet from a hunter in her headrest

The incident could have been dramatic. On Saturday January 28, a driver filed a complaint after having avoided death very closely. A bullet blew out the side window of her vehicle and stuck in the headrest of her seat as she was driving in Quevillon, Seine-Maritime, reports Paris-Normandy.

Very shocked, the driver filed a complaint and the gendarmes found the projectile in the passenger compartment of her vehicle. The incident took place near Rouen, a few hundred meters from the forest. Hunters were indeed in Quevillon at the time of the events but the gendarmes did not confirm that it was the bullet of one of them.

Tensions between hunters and rural people

“It had to happen eventually,” he told Paris-Normandy a couple who live near the premises. “There are everywhere (…) It backfires in all directions, since time we no longer pay attention”, they say. In mid-January, the hunter who killed Morgan Keane in 2020 in the Lot in 2020 while chopping wood at home was given a two-year suspended prison sentence.

The death of Morgan Keane has become emblematic of the difficulties of cohabitation between hunters and other rural people, who are often opposed to this practice. The government announced the strengthening of hunting training and the creation of an alcohol offence, but no day without hunting, as several associations or collectives demanded. According to an Ifop survey published in early January, 78% of French people are in favor of Sunday becoming a day without hunting.
