A few hours after Guadeloupe went into a state of emergency, the prefect of the Overseas Territory announced the establishment of several restrictions aimed at slowing the spread of the coronavirus in the department. From this Friday, July 30, a curfew will be reinstated for all Guadeloupeans who will be prohibited from moving outside their home between 9 p.m. in the evening and 5 a.m.
As of this same date of Friday, the demonstrations and sporting events organized on the public highway remain authorized within “the limit of 50 sportsmen maximum”, indicates the prefecture on its Twitter account. A health protocol must also be respected.

Compelling reason for unvaccinated travelers
On the other hand, the prefect indicates that from Monday, August 2, unvaccinated people must have a compelling reason to travel between Guadeloupe and France. The authorities hope with these measures “to slow down the progression of the virus and break the chains of contamination”.
The regional health agency warned of the “dazzling” progression of contaminations in Guadeloupe, where the number of confirmed cases from July 19 to 25 amounted to 1,072, against 281 the previous week. “Only 15% of the population is fully vaccinated” in this department, government spokesman Gabriel Attal said on Wednesday. Jean Castex was alarmed Thursday by the “dramatic” health situation in certain overseas territories because too many inhabitants there are, according to him, “reluctant to vaccination”.
