a child killed and three others injured in an accident in Morbihan



A dramatic road accident took place this Monday morning shortly after 8 a.m. at a place called La Chauvelaie, in Carentoir, in Morbihan. For an as yet undetermined reason, a vehicle left the road and struck a tree, before catching fire. Witnesses quickly intervened to get the five occupants out of the car before it was engulfed in flames. The toll is heavy. An 11-year-old girl died despite the intervention of firefighters. A 9-year-old child was also transported in absolute emergency by the Civil Security Dragon 56 helicopter to the University Hospital Pontchaillou in Rennes.

The driver of the vehicle, a 39-year-old woman, was slightly injured. It is said to be the mother of the four victims. Her two other children, aged 9 and 14, were also injured and transported to the Sud Hospital in Rennes. About thirty firefighters were present on site, as well as two SMUR vehicles. Four witnesses to the scene were also taken care of by the emergency services.

An open investigation

We do not yet know the circumstances of the tragedy. An investigation was opened by the gendarmerie. A psychological unit should be opened in the school of Gacilly where the children were educated.
