A carpooling lane will be tested on the A1 motorway

Encourage carpooling to ease traffic congestion. The prefecture of the North announces, this Thursday, the establishment as an experiment, of a lane reserved for carpooling on the A1 motorway, around Lille. The details of this new device will be presented during a press briefing next Thursday.

“Recurring congestion on the A1 motorway”

“The road traffic at the gates of Lille being one of the most important in France and the congestion of the recurring A1 motorway, an experiment will be set up in September to encourage carpooling on this axis”, explains the prefecture of the North, in a press release.

In December 2022, the government launched a plan on daily carpooling with the aim of reaching 3 million carpooling trips per day by 2027 against 900,000 currently.
