A 99 near Kirchheim: truck driver trapped in the driver’s cab – district of Munich

On Wednesday afternoon, after a truck accident on the A 99 near Kirchheim, it was extremely difficult for the emergency services to rescue a seriously injured person. They had considerable difficulty getting to the scene of the accident in the construction site area, which was restricted by provisional crash barriers. As a result, the highway had to be completely closed.

The collision of a total of five trucks happened directly under the bridge of the junction in the direction of Nuremberg, the driver of the medium-sized truck was trapped in his collapsed driver’s cab and had to wait there for an hour before he was able to remove the doors and stretch the cab using expanding cylinders could be freed. He was taken to a hospital by a rescue helicopter.

Because it is so narrow in this section and at the same time there was a lot of traffic at the time of the accident, it was almost impossible to create a rescue lane. An excavator first had to be called to open the crash barriers so that the 50-tonne crane from Munich’s professional fire brigade could reach the scene of the accident. The rescue work was partly carried out between the standing queues of cars, according to the fire brigade.

The impact of the truck resulted in larger quantities of the old grease load spilling onto the road. The recording of the accident, the recovery of the wreckage and the cleaning of the motorway lasted well into the evening. Even after the closure was lifted, traffic was backed up as far as Hohenbrunn.
